Free Listings/AdWords Penalty?

It just occured to me....we have a site in Google, in the free listings. Been there for years. We also send it traffic via AdWords and have been doing so for years. This wouldn't somehow be seen as a no-no, would it? There isn't some rule that says a site in the free listings can't also be targeted by AdWords, is there? Please tell me I am being paranoid?

So AWA, these black helicopters with the small Google logo and the BIG WiFi antennae hovering outside my house...

I can just ignore them, right? Or are they after my conversion data to move my CPC prices up from 2p to 3p?
