is this a feasable alternative?

I know there's no way to pause indidividual ads, and the suggestion I see most often is to create a new ad, wait until it builds CTR and then delete the old one.

How about just creating one ad group per ad instead? Identical keywords and cpc, just different ads in each. It's a little more work to ensure only one ad group with the same keywords is running at any one time, but it gives you a lot more control. You can decide exactly which ad to run and for how long. Has anyone tried this and if so, anything I should be aware of?

also, a quick question for AWA. Does the 100 ad groups per campaign limit apply to all ad groups or just active ones?

danger, the limit to the number of Ad Groups per campaign is really a 'suggested limit' as opposed to a 'hard limit'.

You'll find many WebmasterWorld folks who routinely exceed the 'limit' of 100 with no problems. At some point though, account navigation could become slow.

On a related subject, this is probably as good a time as any to say that, as a principle, I promote the idea of running an account in a "lean" as opposed to "bloated" way.

To me, the ideal account includes everything it needs to include - while including nothing that doesn't add value.

Why do I keep runing into this limit then? Seems 'hard' to me when it say's "unable to proceed because it would exceed the 50 ad limit" (read that again. it says FIFTY).

Ok, it just happend again. Here's the exact message:

We were unable to process your request to add and/or edit the ad. Making this change would exceed the limit of 50 ads per Ad Group. Please first reduce the number of ads in this Ad Group to below the limit before making your changes.

Looks like a hard limit of 50 to me.

ok, i see. you're saying 100 ad groups in a campaign. I run into a limit of 25?

Maybe i dont spend enough to break these limits?
