My plan is to set up a new Campaign structure, then move existing keywords into the new structure. A lot of the keywords have performed well over a long period of time, so I don't want to jeopardize whatever the historical performance that Google factors into its ranking algorithm.

pdivi, when you delete a keyword and use it again elsewhere in your account, the stats you see for the keyword will be 'zeroed out' (since they are dependent on the new ad it appears with). However the historical performance of the keyword will be retained by the system.
Remember, though, that position in the new campaign will be dependent on a number of factors, including the ad text.

(For the top positions above Google search results, we use the actual CPC.) And whilst I might have your ear, may I also ask you all @ Google to consider having a "Pause" function on KeyWords. As sometimes you are not sure if a keyword is working well (as in my case it takes time to know if a KeyWord works), so you either delete it or keep buying traffic in the hope it eventually pays off

EvilDan, both of these requests have come up a number of times in the past - and I know for a fact that they're on the official (and lengthy!) "Wish List" of requested features heard in this excellent Forum, among other places. ;)

About a week ago, I went ahead did what I said I would do -- created new campaigns and simply moved existing keywords into the new campaigns. The only other change I made is that I added some new keywords.
My impressions are running at 25% of what they were before I made the change. What happened? Did adding new keywords supress rotation of the old keywords, or does moving keywords to a new campign in fact affect how the system views their history?
This is a real bummer. I was just looking to tidy up the house a bit, and I ended up burning it down.
By the way, all of my daily budgets are set way above my daily billings.

I think you've lost the history you had on those existing keywords from the old ad group, you will need to wait until they have built up good clickthrough history again.
Also as the ads are new you will have to wait until google has reviewed the ads before you get any content (and search?) partner traffic. That might take a while.
Lastly its my understanding that every ad / ad group / campaign will have a unique "quality" rating, different from the ad group you moved from. So the new one may be seen as higher or lower quality by adwords, this could affect the number of impressions, I guess.
But, assuming AWA is right perhaps its simply the content and search networks thats missing, which might account for the lack of traffic? Regardless of KW history the new ads will still have to go through approval.
