Its been awhile since I followed this topic here on WebmasterWorld, but am I correct that if I edit one of my adwords listings I lose all of the CTR data etc that google uses to determine the ranking of my ad?

Currently my listing has the price included in the listing. It has taken it about a month to climb in the listings even though I haven't changed the cpc. Now, I want to raise the price in the ad. Will I lose everything I have worked for if I do this?

According to Google, you'll lose a little and it probably will take a few days to build back to the same position as your new ad gains a decent CTR. Remember, Ad CTR + Max CPC + keyword CTR are 3 factors that go into your positioning. You've lost one temporarily.

Usually, the advice is to create a second ad and allow the old one to run until the second ad has built up a decent CTR. However, in the case of a price change, you have no choice. If Google finds the ad with the wrong price, it will be suspended and you're sunk anyway.

You've got to bite the bullet on this one. If better revenues make it worth raising the price, you'll profit better in the long run. If you're an affiliate and have no control over the price, then you have no choice anyway.

I have many, many ads where I list prices and have a program that alerts me to the need to change them and I haven't noticed much suffering on my part.

If this is your only ad and product, you may want to mull it over more. Create a second ad with no price and let that run for a while so you have something left to hold your position when you change the price in the ad that lists price.
