in seeing 3 top adwords ads instead of 2 like its been for years...

They are always testing new ideas out. I haven't seen this one, but I know others on Webmasterworld have before.

I'm seeing this a LOT these days. Before it was the odd test here and there. Now, this seems to be almost the standard on some searches.

It almost looks like it's no longer a test, but a slow integration to get people use to the idea.

All speculation - but it'll have an effect on quite a few positions(position 4 will be an interesting CTR to calculate) if they goto this layout.
