More keywords equal less traffic?

As I add more keywords, my overall traffic goes down..

Hi All,
New to posting but have been following the forums for almost 4 months.

Does anyone know why my overall traffic from Adwords goes down when I add more keywords. I have my daily budget set at $200 and I don't ever come close to hitting it so I know that isn't the problem.

When my campaign has 10 keywords, I'm getting about 800 click-throughs per day. However when I add more keywords, the overall click-throughs go down to 400 or 500 clicks per day. Very strange.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Dogza!

It's next to impossible to answer this question without knowing a lot of specifics - so this is a question that would be better addressed directly to AdWords support, since they're able to look at the account in detail.

If I had to guess, it would be that when you added the new keywords, you also changed the ad copy at the same time. This can substantially reduce your impressions, since it means that your ads will show only on Google, until the changes can be reviewed and approved. This can amount to the difference between showing on one site, and potentially showing on dozens, or even hundreds, of other sites.
