Got my Ads disapproved today:

"Your ad(s) contains the following unacceptable phrase(s) in
your title: "Online". Please remove these phrases from your ad titles."

The following phrase(s) do not meet our appropriate
spacing/grammar requirements: "CDRom". We suggest using "CD Rom" instead.

Whats the point in accepting adverts if your not gonna approve any?

The word "online" has been like this for quite sometime, shame because on "premium listings" it was/is allowed and always achieves great CTR.

not sure on CDrom though.

suppose they are not 2 major flaws and you should be able to work round them.

I guess "online" would be just too general a word as many advertisers would use it, and it would lose its impact soon anyway.

I got rejected for using the term Google in my ad. Since my url contains the word "google" it means there's no way i can re-word the ad to make it compliant. If i had known this, i probably would have picked a different domain name, but i haven't been able to find anything on the google adwords site that says google cannot be used in an ad. Didn't know it until I tried to actually create the ad. sigh...

its probably not on there because they expect NO 1 to have the term Google anywhere in their brandname/domain and be involved even remotely with the Internet.

Not being defensive for them, but what link/relationship do you have with Google, that you registered a domain with their brand in it and then proceed to advertise on their site.

Adwords isn't happy with CDRom as it has excessive capitalisation for Adwords.

"buy a DVD" is acceptable but "BUY A DVD" is not. By adding that space to make it become CD Rom you avoid the capitalisation issue.

honestly, it never even occurred to me that it might be offensive to them in any way. perhaps i should have thought of that, but i just didn't. and no, i'm not related to them in any way shape or form. like i said, if it had occurred to me, i wouldn't have used that domain name. just seemed to make sense to me at the time.

They do seem to be very picky at times.

We had a ad `disapproved` because the same word was in
two seperate lines, despite the ad running for months!

We did not change anything, now it has re-appeared!

Very strange

(Nothing like as bad as Overture though!)

We are not worthy to server Lord Google.

They have been disapproving me with less than 100 impressions in four hours.

My money is not needed there.

Sad thing is that there are NO advertisers in my main keywords. NONE.

rsequin, look in your mailbox for something from Google. They generally send an email within 24 hours telling you why the ad was yanked, with suggestions on how to fix it. If you don't get an email, be proactive and write to them asking what the problem is (after all, it's your money ;) ). Early on I had a keyword yanked *fast* because it was so broad that it showed up everywhere and nobody clicked. I got more focused and hey presto, my CTR went through the roof.

kila_m: You can always make the R in CDRom lowercase, as in 'CDrom'.

cheers,
Chris

No one has responded back to this thread in awhile, but since I am new to the forum I thought I could share some of my own unique perspective about AdWords.

First, regarding "online" on the ad title. Usually this is a straight disapproval, BUT if you use online in the title promoting a specific service that is online then it should be OK (such as "online gaming" but not if you are simply selling a product online).

And as for ads being disapproved because they have the same word on two different lines - this is not only due to the repetition issue but also because of consecutive repetition of a word/phrase that ends on one line and appears at the beginning of the next line.

Example:
Buy new widgets.
New Widgets from Timbuktu.
Get them Here.
www.afldkfjslf.com

On AOL and some other partner sites, the ads appear on one line, so this one would look like:
Buy new widgets. New Widgets from Timbuktu. Get them Here.

So the ad would be disapproved for having "new widgets" consecutively and looking bad on one line.

One of the main reasons behind many of Google's editorial policies is simply how the ad looks aesthetically. It's a very important part of PR that can't be overlooked for Google. Their own image is directly reflected on the ads they show on their site.

Google prides itself on the quality of their search results, and so they naturally have certain expectations along those lines for the ads that appear on their site.
