Showing your ads at a certain time

How long does it take for the system to "catch up"?

Hello everyone,

I am running a service where one of the draws of my ad is that I am ready immediately to talk to someone when they enter my site.

Is there a way to run an ad that states this, and only have it be active during the hours of the day that I am available at my site?

What I am wondering is this:

Whenever I am at my website ready to take "live chats" (no, this is not a pornographic site) if I go and turn my ads on, how long will it take until they are truly running? (and then when I am not at my website, I would disable the ads temporarily). I realize that google would say the ads were available "immediately", but my understanding was that it actually takes a couple of days for your ads to be in "full swing".

My understanding was that it is not a good idea to do these kinds of things (constantly stopping and starting your ads). Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Matt

After the KWs are approved (instantly or in 1-2 days if they are sensitive), pausing and resuming them should have a lag of less than 1 hour.

So pausing and resuming ads seems to be the best solution.

Although I essentially agree with mike_ppc, I just wanted to add a bit more information.

Ads will run on Google very quickly after they've been submitted, and then can run on the search and/or content networks after they've been approved. The time required for this will vary depending on volume, but the approval process is not actually "instant".

Pausing and resuming usually does have a lag time of less than an hour, but this is not always the case, and again, it can vary a lot with volume. So, it may be a lot less than an hour, or it may be more.

mbush27, I guess my best advice it to allow yourself at least an hour's lag time, if not more. Unfortunately, in this case, the AdWords system is not ideal for you, since it was designed around the much more common scenario of running on an ongoing basis, with occasional starting and stopping.

Perhaps stating your hours (and time zone!) in your ads will turn out to be the key, since you only pay for clicks, and not impressions. If people carefully read your ad (and do the time zone math), then they may not click until you're 'in the seat'.

It's probably worth an experiment at any rate.

Thank you so much for the suggestions.

So far so good with the stopping and starting. I have really only needed to stop/start once a day.

I appreciate your feedback.
