I run a website that caters to a (potentially) very wide audience on a geographically local level.
Without mentioning specifics... it works on a vaguley similar model ebay does. A small portion of the population has something to advertise (lets call them the posters), and a larger portion will visit the site and contact the poster of the ad offline (lets call them the guests).
I am curious if Overture and AdWords would be benificial to me. Would I be wasting all of those dollars bringing guests to the site when I really want to bring the posters to the site? (When it's the posters who are the ones bringing in the revenue) Also, because most of the guests come from a geographically central location is there any way to target say just North Carolina, without the user typing in "North Carolina Recycling Centre" into the SE.
Is CPC geared more for the sale of tangibles like sports equipment or gadgets? Or is it good for bringing just anyone to your site?
Also, is there any way you can find out the price of your keywords without actually subscribing. Sort of like a quote system.

on the subject of seeing prices, no Google does not do this. You can start at a minimun bid of 0.05$.
the following link provides prices in the overture system
I know that google can do country specific ads. But on US regional I do not know. I am sure someone here knows the answer to this.
If not mail google.
Is there any way to tell what country or region you are in just by your ip?
I think that would be great... turn on G type in "recreation centre" and the one down the street pops up instead of one in Nebraska that just happens to be on top of the rankings.
Maybe a radio button on the SE's splash page with your choice of National.... State... County... City.... Neiborhood....
This would definatley need a rehauling of SE technology and a new distribution of META tags... but eventually I's like to see it happen.
