Punctuation in Keywords

dash, underscore, percent, etc.

Using the "find alternatives" tool, AdWords gave me some suggested keywords that have hyphens in them. For example, if I had a Chinese-Italian restaurant, I might make a keyword:

"chinese-italian food"

My question is: In this context, does the hyphen act the same as a space? What about other punctuation, such as &*%$#@!?

I asked this very same question here some months ago.

What I found is that hyphenation can bring up different serps and different ads - so it is worth a try.

However, based on my experience I found that in my markets the hyphenated versions of kw's did not work very well. Eventually I dumped them all.

Regardless, they are worth a trial and could work for you. As for the non-alpha-numerics; well, how many people use them in their search terms?

You won't know until you give it a try...
