Tiny site in Adwords

is it worth it or just throwing money into the wind

I have a tiny community site. I just kicked it off, and it is in sore need of participants.

Would it worth to participate in AdWords, and if so, what is the minimum amount a month that would be tolerable, and doable? (I am thinking $100 or so...)

Thanks!

just minimum bids .05/bid just set a daily budget so you don't go over your 100 mark or else you will and you'll get billed.. over and over till you pause it :)

Tapolyai, that's a pretty difficult question to answer, as the answer will vary for every situation. But I'd say there is little to be lost by giving it a try.

Do keep in mind that I work at AdWords, so take my opinion for what it's worth. ;)

The cool thing about AdWords is that you're in the drivers seat, and have complete control over what you spend. There is no minimum spend, and no minimum term of service. And you set a daily budget, which is your spending cap, per day.

I would advise reading as much as you can before starting, so that you'll start out on the right foot. This Forum is a great place to learn, as is the AdWords site itself.

One thing that's important to know up-front. It does take some time to learn the ropes and create a successful campaign. So you'll want to have at least 10 or 15 minutes a day (for a very basic account) to groom it. The more time you spend with your account, the better it'll work for you.

Interesting sidelight: The lowest daily budget I've ever personally seen was $0.15/day, or $4.50 for a 30 day month. And they were happy with their results.

I hope you'll give it a try. ;)

Thank you both for your answers.

I have been reading WW for almost four years, yet only took the courage to start this now... I will give it a try.

If your "community" is a physical, geographical area, be sure you figure out the regional targeting features.

Is each visitor worth at least 5 cents?

If so, then it is worth it.

If not, then it's not worth it.

Unfortunatelly for me, the 5 cent thing is soft. I have no way of knowing just yet, how much a visitor worth since I am a new site.

Tap:

You should put up a tracking mechanism to determine the collective behavior of your visitors. In time, you should get a good picture of it, and after that, you can make a good determination as to whether or not your site is a good fit for AdWords. To quote a Saturday morning cartoon/action figure, "Knowing is half the battle."

Bear in mind that, as active searchers (at least on the search side in AdWords), there is a good chance that people that come via PPC could be worth more than your typical visitors (depending on where typical visitors come from).

Also be sure to check out OV local, only drawback is the $49 or $99 fee for a proposal.

Don't want to get completely off track here, but want to clarify.

Also be sure to check out OV local, only drawback is the $49 or $99 fee for a proposal.

you can also set up OV local without a fee. Unlike OV precision match, OV local doesn't have a minimum spend (and unlike AdWords, there is no activation fee - so OV local is the cheapest setup/maintenance of the tier 1 distribution properties to get into).

However, you must have a physical business to use OV local. They do have a few guidelines about what is local, and what isn't.

Here's another AdWords thread about local targeting w/ AdWords:

No, my site is not a location specific, nor does it have a physical presence, like a store or such (unless you count the PO Box).
