hi guys are you allowed to advertise gaming/betting/casino style websites?

Advertising is not permitted for online casinos, sports books, bingo, and affiliates with the primary purpose of driving traffic to online gambling sites.
so would we be allowed to direct traffic from adwords to online competitions then ie txting in to win stuff?

If you want a specific question about what is allowed, you're going to have to contact Google directly. Editorial reviews are done on a case by case basis by Google.
