How to find keywords that are in more than one adgroup?

Hey,

I'm just cleaning up my account a little bit to make space for more and better keywords. I got the "unamanagable size" notice, so that's the only thing I can do :) I know there are several keywords that appear in more than one adgroup, but most times they only really fit in one of them.

So now I'm looking for a way to find keywords that appear in multiple adgroups. Does anybody know if there is a way to do that?

Try using the search field in the upper right corner of the google adwords interface. It says something like Search campaigns, adgroup, etc.

rstein,

That "Search" box is handy for some searches, but have you ever noticed how if you try to search for a phrase that includes common words a lot of your keyword phrases might use, it returns an occurance of any of the words?

quality of the widget returns all keywords, ads, etc that contain of or the and then "caps" the results once they reach 1,000. Oftentimes, that is before you've found what you're looking for.

Under Tools¦Find and Edit Keywords, the "...for keywords that match these criteria:" section offers a little more flexibility. You can search for an exact match for your keyword there.

I get in trouble with the former search if I look for a phrase containing, say, "women". 1,000 results are returned in no time, but not what I was looking for.
The Tools¦Find and Edit Keywords offers a drop down list with a "matches exactly" clause that will match exactly what you are looking for.

I hoped there was a tool to find keywords that are on my lists more than once and where I directly can edit (CPC, URL) or delete them. To go through all my keywords by hand would occupy me for some days...

So if there is no such tool, perhaps AdwordsAdvisor could make the tech-staff to add it :)

You could run a keyword summary report (include campaign, adgroup, and keyword), export it to CSV and then use Excel to sort by keyword. You'll easily be able to see all the duplicates. Or, better yet, if you have Access, import the CSV into Access and create a "Find Duplicates" query (there is a wizard) to find all of the duplicates (use the keyword and match type columns to find duplicates).

Thanks corbing, I forgot about that possibility. I even have a macro for Excel that shows me the duplicates...

Well, then I'll use Excel. But anyway it would be nice if something like that was implemented in Adwords, because I'm sure there are lots of accounts out there wasting space and money only because keywords accidently are listed twice or more often in the account and unrelevant adgroups.
