I've been trying to get on to Google Uk to have my client set up Premium Listings (At last I cleint that wants to spend a couple of grand a month on Google!). , finally answer was as follows:-

"We are unfortunately not allowed to sell the Premium Sponsorship any more (the CPM offering), this is because we are phasing out the CPM offering as a whole."

Instead I was offered "Preimium AWS", does this mean Adwords, it was on a CPC bais, adding up to nearly £1.00 a click >!

I cant buy a premium listing any more?

No way.... :(

We've just bought 2 campains on Google.com and they were making changes, but weren't talking about phasing out all together.

all very interesting stuff.

maybe Kate or GoogleGuy can clear this up, as I am not 100% sure what the situation is.

Ok, here is the deal from what I can make of it.

Premium Listings will gradually be getting phased out allowing adwords customers with sometimes a lot more relevant creatives/business to have the chance of getting #1 and #2 positions.

as some of you may be aware Premium Listings are booked on a first refusal basis, this allows certain individuals to dominate the markets for keywords which may be completly unrelated or even achieving very low click thorugh.

This new system should be a bit fairer for all "advertisers".

I have my own views on this, but from an overall perspective, it was GOING to happen, and now it will. allows the fun to really begin.

Oh well, nice whilst it lasted.

To me it stinks - It would to any business person. Dominating the Google top spot for a grand amonth, what more could you want - Adwords works great - but it is supplementary - what I wanted was real bulk visits, and premium listings would have done it. Oh well, "Always the bridesmaid, never the bride!"
(and I'm a guy, so that IS scary)

in certain corners of the world, I am known as the biggest fan of Google premium listings, 1 PPC provider has even resorted to calling me "Googles Biggest Fan".

our company consistently achieved 10>20% CTR since Aug 2001, and actually built a whole revenue model purely on premium listings.

times are changing and itwas always going to happen, neither me or you can tell Google how to make money, especially when likes of Overture and Espotting are creaming it at the moment.

From an Premium Advertisers point of view, I am not happy.

From an Adwords users point of view, Excellent.

From a Users point of view, I would NOT see the difference.

From Googles point of view, Mucho Dineros.

I'm guessing this must be just for Google UK? I've been talking to a US rep this week about starting some new premium listings and they didn't mention anything about this...

Ive had the same message from Google today - in my particular case the best tranche of relevant keywords had already been snapped up so after huge disappointment there would seem to be a glimmer of hope.

Makes perfect sense - why not have as many relevant sites as possible bidding for the top slots - Google will make a mint and the rest of us can jostle for the best positions on the page.

Can I ask if anyone (Shak?!) knows when the new deal will come into effect - is it going to be a case of exhausting current deposits and then reverting to the new arrangement? Is there an implementation date?

Any news on this would be good for those adwords veterans that never quite made the leap but are relishing the levelling of the playing field!

I have to say Shak, you are remarkably composed for someone whose business model just took a nose dive.

We like Premium a lot but we don't rely on it like you seem to.

Got any plans up your sleeve? Not Adwords, surely? And spend all day adjusting your bids?

Am I glad that I never got up to speed on Premium Listings!

I must admit that many a time the premium positions are allocated to big companies and the relevancy is in the toilet, although those that worked it well could get the double figure clickthrough rate.

Ultimately it's about ROI and conversions, a good CTR helps to boost the ROI because you pay less per click, but if the keywords are irrelevant then double figure CTR is of no benefit (as I am sure is the case in certain cases, although not with our own guru).

Premium Adwords means you have a dedicated account manager from sales in much the same way you did with Premium Listings, their job is to encourage you to spend more cash.

I noticed Google advertising for jobs in the UK yesterday, one in PR. I think the UK online market is starting to get very interesting and Google have clearly woken up and smelt the coffee with this move.

Do I understand this right? The premium listings will be replaced by the top performing adwords? Ie, the ones that make Google most money?
I had assumed most premium listings were making them more money than the adwords were likely too. Seems I was wrong again!

Doesnt bring enough traffic - something comparable to Google Premium lisitings - although I doubt if such exists. I think I am going to have to spend time and form individual "special" relationships with major uk portals.

I for one, am very excited about this. I am not able to get into the Premium Spots for my main 2 word phrase. The 2nd word is a common jewelry term that gets snapped up by some big houses... even though if a person types in the 2 word phrase they are *never* looking for what the big house is selling.

Every once is a while I slip up it the Premium spot for one reason or another and my sales increase 300%!
I want a crack at the spot.
