I understand that i have a very niched business (I run an aerial cirque and dance company) however i do not understand why adwords will not accept ANY of my keywords..... They have now put every single one on hold. This did not happen initially. Initially i was getting lots of hits from keywords such as cirque, acrobats, trapeze, live entertainment, etc. I know this because i kept track on my web pages tracking device. So in knowing that i WAS getting clicks from relating keywords i am completely confused as to why adwords has put every single keyword of mine on hold. Does anyone have any advice they could give me? Was adwords not built for niched companies such as mine?

Thanks in advance...I appreciate the help!

I've noticed in the last 3 days, that even though it says that my keywords are on hold, my ads are still being displayed.

Are you still getting impressions also even though your keywords are on hold?

Also, check out the ON TRIAL .. ON HOLD MESS thread

in this forum and you'll see that others are mystified as to what exactly's going on.

Girl Power

Welcome!

I had the same thing happen to my account not so long back......i contacted Google and they told me that they were doing a complete review of my account manually and this was the reason for on hold status......2 days later is was back up and running (minus a few KW's)

(Girl power? I thought that died with the Spice Girls)

i contacted Google and they told me that they were doing a complete review of my account manually and this was the reason for on hold status

Once again I must ask the obvious and I wish AWA could provide an answer to this one. Why is it necessary to put your account on "hold" during this "complete review"?

When I've read of these horrors where people find their accounts at a standstill for up to a week. Others have reported no indication in their accounts that a review was ongoing, they only knew their ads weren't showing and went half mad trying to figure out why.

Your account has already been running and ads showing. If you're doing something so horrendous, surely the ads can run another few days until Google concludes they can ban you entirely or whatever.

Why must we endure this "unpaid vacation" during review time?

I agree completely Patient2All. Not only does it slow business for the advertiser but just think how much Google is losing on lost click thru's due to the "On Hold" status on thousands of accounts every day!

this word "On Hold" has been recurring in my dreams as of lately......i think they call it a nightmare!

If indeed there is any shrewd business plan behind Google's quirky (that's the polite word) policies of late, it will be interesting to see how the Q1 financial filings look....

Now, we are sure that Michael Jackson didn't pick up 51% of the public shares this year, no?

Further, why cannot there be even the briefest forewarning or notice of this event? People depend on this business to earn their livelihoods. I have other pursuits that make me money that I could engage in while this "offlne review" is taking place, if I had any idea it was taking place.

If the reason is to not give advertisers a chance to bring disreputable campaigns into compliance, then once again, the majority of honest AdWords advertisers suffer because of the few sneaks who appear to operate openly with impunity anyway.

All ignoring the subject accomplishes is to reinforce the often stated comments here that Google has forgotten the hundreds of thousands of small advertisers who proved PPC was a profitable marketing venue. This did not go unnoticed by major corporations who think in terms of 1 million dollar ad campaigns.

Do that major advertisers like worldwide corporations who show for pretty much every ad nowadays in the retail sector suffer this same indignity?

Let's see, this isn't too technical a question, it didn't start out with an argumentative tone, but it is controversial...... Oh

Initially i was getting lots of hits from keywords such as cirque, acrobats, trapeze, live entertainment, etc.

GirlPower19, these keywords are actually very general, and I would advise using keywords which are much more targeted. If you're not certain what these keywords might be, I'd suggest contacting AdWords support and asking for some specific suggestions.

To illustrate the point, though here are two really basic examples of what I mean:

* Someone searching on the keyword 'acrobat' might be looking for a software program.

* Someone searching on the keyword 'hire acrobat' may be looking for you. ;)

* Someone searching for the keyword 'trapeze' may be looking for medical equipment.

* Someone searching for the keyword 'hire trapeze artist' may be looking for you.

Was adwords not built for niched companies such as mine?

AdWords can almost certainly be made to work for your niche business. It may take some experimentation to find the 'golden' keywords, is all. ;)

I wish you the best of success!

I had the same thing happen to my account not so long back......

Delegate, this surprised me. I'm not aware of any way in which on-hold keywords can lead to a review...

Never let it be said that I can't take a hint. ;)

Patient2all, as you have been very direct, I'll be equally so. As you may have surmised, I am not able to detail the 'when and why' of the review process.

I know, of course, that this answer will not please you - and I'll be happy to pass on any feedback that you care to leave on the subject.

Fair enough, AWA,

When and why nonwithstanding, why stop the account during the review? Even those engaged in the most egregious conduct have been doing so prior to the review and I doubt that's what you find in the majority of reviews anyway.

Even undercover cops let the drug dealers go on business as usual until they have the "goods" to make the bust.

Why can't advertisers be innocent until proven guilty?

It may not seem like much to Google, but the sudden loss of a few hundred dollars income amounts to an undeserved "fine", in effect, even though no wrongdoing can be verified until after the review completes.

Someone searching for the keyword 'hire trapeze artist' may be looking for you.

Just watch that one, they may be into something *kinky* :)

Fair enough, AWA,...

I'm copy/pasting your feedback into this week's report right now, Patient2all. ;)
