Okay, here's the deal...

I do CPC and feeds for my company currently. They have asked me if I would like to hire someone to take it over so that I can move onto new projects. I also have the option of going to an outside provider, like many of you are.

What are the pros to hiring the pros?

weird or what,

jus been having a cigaretter downstairs and thinking exactly the same, especially when 1s PPC budget is quite large.

last year we probably spend around £400,000 on PPC and did it in-house, looking back I think about 20% was wasted due to time pressures and Ego problems.

Over the last few months I have talked to a number of 3rd party companies who do this for a living, and 1 company has been especially forthcoming with their methods.

I am now absolutely certain that outsourcing this task is the way to go from an ROI perspective.

PPC managers learn tricks whilst working on multiple campaigns in different industries, whilst also having the eye to spot fraudulent activity patterns combined with some excellent insider contacts.

I woul still say that 90% of PPC managers are full of b#&%$£"X@ and are just interested in the cut.

however the other 10% really know what they are doing.

In the whole of the UK, I can ONLY recommend 3 companies for the job, and they all read Webmasterworld.

What are the pros to hiring the pros?

As Shak touched on, if the pros really are pros, they should be more effective on the job than the on-staff "generalist" a company might have available to assign to any particular job.

They have asked me if I would like to hire someone to take it over so that I can move onto new projects.

That's, more generally, getting onto the whole point of outsourcing. Your employer could have you cleaning the carpets or emptying the trash, but has (I hope) wisely chosen to outsource those tasks to a cleaning crew and put you to work on things you're better suited to.

Outsourcing is nothing more than hiring a specialist to handle specific tasks. As with any similar situation, exercise due diligence in finding the right specialist -- and continually monitor their performance -- and they should be able to get the job done effectively. If not, that's what their competition is there for.

Pros of hiring the pros

- Because they are the pros. They can probably do a better job of managing your campaigns and help you get better ROI.

- Allows you to concentrate on other aspects of your business (product/service enhancement, customer support)

- Some aspects of the campaign mgmt is basically grunt work. Probably makes sense to let somebody else handle it.

Cons of hiring the pros

- What if the pro turns out to be a con(man)? In other words, is the pro really a pro? Always ask for references.

- What if the professional campaign mgmt company already has a client in your business category bidding on the same keywords? There is a possibility of clash of interest.

- Campaign mgmt fees can be high (fees depends on a number of parameters.)
