Conversion Tracking

A good thing?

My company has always tracked Google conversions with URL query strings. Generally they don't like to put snippets of anyone else's code on our pages because they say it can cause problems and slow page loading. But I'm thinking that Google's conversion tracking feature might be easier and more informative than what we're doing now. Has anyone had any problems using it? Do you think it is better than doing your own tracking? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

I notice that no one has responded to this thread yet, so I thought I'd jump in.

I'm probably not the right person to comment on the worth of G's conversion tracking, though, mwilliams, since I work there. ;)

However, I strongly support the idea that conversion tracking of some sort is really important - and perhaps even essential - to getting the best value from AdWords. Or any PPC program, for that matter.

My $0.02.

I use the Google tracking codes on several sites. You only need to put it on your 'thank you' pages. Never had a problem with it.

We used to use the G tracking code on our "thanks" pages, however we didn't get very valuable data from that program. Our inhouse log and sales analysis is much more accurate. We do use a tracking paramter in every paid URI, including online yellow pages and affiliate relationships, which definitely improves the accuracy of our analyses.
