Geo Targeting

Traffic Estimator and Actual Results Conflict

1) Targeting Seattle we created a campaign with 5 keywords with Max CPC of $5. Google Traffic Estimator says we will get 17, 11, 8, 5, 4 clicks per day for each keyword.

2) However after running the campaign for 4/5 days not even single click happened. We increased Max CPC to 10$ and the daily budget to $100. Tried changing the ad still no clicks.

3) Does geo targeting work?

4) We are planning to run a campaign focussing oregon. Now i have tried out a lot of keywords, however hardly any keyword shows more than 10 clicks per day on the traffic estimator. However for national targeting traffic estimators shows upto 100 clicks per day.

5) Am I missing something? Is there a different approach?

Any help is appreciated!

Traffic estimator cannot be trusted. How many impresions do you get? If you get a large number of impressions, but no clicks, review your ad and your geotargeting.

If you get no impressions......at least make sure taht your daily budget is high enough to show your ad every time. You should try and search for your ads (or ask a friend to do this).

Thanks for your reply mike_ppc

The campaign has been running for 5 days. Each of the keywords has a total impression of 21, 23, 5, 69, 24. Couple of keywords moved into on Trial. The Avg position is 1.6.

From my experience i find that targeting entire US with keywords that has potential of bringing in >50 clicks a day works well.

However if am targeting locally, finding a keyword which would bring so much of clicks seems to be next to impossible.

However i go through articles that say geo targeting gives the best value for money.

Confused how to go about.

The number of impressions is very small for five days...

On the 1.6AvgPos, still, you should have a good CTR. Make sure your AdText is targeted and also your keywords (eventually have negative kws - especially if you have phrase or broadmatch).

Could you check if your ads are served for every search? I don't know much about local target, but it seems that there are some "issues" about it.

Also important, try to add other specific KWs. Don't think only from your point of view, but also using "user's thinking"!

Sure let me try some more keywords and tweak the ads to see what works.
