Number of clicks rising, conversion ratios dropping

... anyone else?

Since the beginning of January the number of clicks has increased - just the number of clicks though. The number of impressions is the same simply the click-through ratios that are up.

BUT - my conversion ratios are dropping which leads me to believe that the "new clicks" aren't genuine traffic. Has anyone else experienced this since the beginning of January? I am in the legal sector which is a very high bidding industry and therefore a prime target for fraudulent Adsense clicks.

Which reminds me, are the affiliate search boxes counted as "content advertising" or are the click-throughs from adsense for search mixed in with the regular Google Search clickthroughs? Never received a response from Google on that one ....

I've certainly been seeing a marked increase in traffic volumes since the New Year - primarily through Content. And, whilst clicks and conversions are up, the ratio of clicks to conversions is certainly down.

Click fraud? Not as far as I'm concerned. Answer? I don't yet know.

I doubt that this will help, but the thread below highlights my experiences in this regard.

Affiliate search boxes are considered search, as a user has todo a search to bring up ads. They are not considered part of the content match program.

There have been other threads marking the controversial "search partners" which display "results" as opposed to contextual banners. Maybe this is where the fraudulent traffic is coming from. Maybe Google should have a tick box which allows you to opt out of any searches where someone other than Google gets paid for it .... that would eliminate fraudulent Adsense affiliates ....

..... then you only have to deal with the competitors trying to deplete your funds .... ;)
