how much do you have to pay for that spot?

Just curious. How much do you have to pay to get on the sponsored results (blue bar) spot at the top of the page? Is there a fixed cost?

Can't find any info on Google Adwords FAQs.

It is not as easy as "how much to pay". Find the threads here, that are focused on it.

To motivate you - my best words on premium spots:
0.06 USD, 18% CTR
0.07 USD, 20% CTR

:-)

Been thru whole load of threads on here and still can't find any info on how much they cost.

Been on Google Advertising section, and can't find Premuim Sponsorship mentioned anywhere.

They're not doing a very good job promoting it, are they? :-(

They are simply part of the normal AdWords programme, there is no fixed cost - it's a combination of your max CPC, CTR, and relevancy. It will normally take a while before a new ad starts appearing on the top bar as the relevent weighting statistics need to be gathered.

For relatively non-competitive keywords you can get the top spot for the minimum CPC as long as your ad performs well.

dave741,

0.06 USD, 18% CTR
0.07 USD, 20% CTR

Now that's sweet. I'm hearing the angels sing.

Very nice indeed, dave741. The result of really careful targeting/ongoing testing, no doubt?

Excellent work!

Good question as I was just looking for this same information last night!

While I found no immediate reference, what I did notice should set off some alarms for advertisers. There is the term "Sponsored Links" off to the right side of these listings, which I assumed would take me to a description of how to get "Sponsored Links". When I clicked it, I was actually taken to the to the top listing which isn't what I wanted or expected for that little "Sponsored Links" word!

I wonder how many people have clicked on "Sponsored Links" seeking Adword answers, cost the advertiser money and closed the window immediately like I did after not seeing a Google page?

Bad web design 101, especially when it's costing advertisers money.

Very good point, incrediBILL, and one which patient2all has brought up a time or two recently in a slightly different way.

I'll certainly pass your comment on later this week, verbatim (as I did with patient2all's).

Thanks!

I am just starting to measure conversions. We will see, what will the angels say :-)

incrediBILL is right. The whole row on premium positions shouldn't be clickable.

So, I have the first conversion numbers:

1. There are two words in that phrase
2. Date range February 21st - 27th
3. Avg. CPC 0.06
4. CTR 19.3% (it is on premium position)

The more interesting part comes:
5. Conversion rate: 3,45% (it means 5 new customers in absolute numbers)

The nubers are still low, but I would say the trend is not bad.

The best part now:
6. The phrase I am talking about is BROAD MATCH!

The best part now:
6. The phrase I am talking about is BROAD MATCH!

Which makes 145 clicks out of 750 impressions and $8.70 spent.
Could you reveal the ROI Dave741, if it is not against the TOS? Thanks.
