I just started a new campaign with just one keyword - eg "abc".
Problem is the Estimate Traffic function is not giving an accurate guide. I put in my Max CPC at $1.
It shows me:
Average Cost per Click - $0.46
Click per Day - 65
Position is - 2.0
So I am thinking that position 2 is not to bad and I am willing to pay $1 so I should get no 1 spot.
However my live campaign shows that my:
Impressions are only 8
With 1 click through
Cost at $0.90 per click.
With position of 7.7!
How come Google's estimate of $0.46 gives me a position 2 while I am willing to pay $1 and am at position 7.7?
Please help me to understand.
If it is about keyword optimization, my headline has my keyword and so does my details.
Appreciate your help to decipher this mystery to me.
What am I doing wrong or not understanding.
TQ.
I generally start with bids a little higher than I'd like so as not to start off with a poor CTR, then search my terms a few times to see where I end up. Then I make adustments until it's to my liking as well as within my budget.
With some experience, you'll get a "sense" of what it takes to compete, but I've never gotten any useful information from the Traffic Guesser.

The Traffic Estimator is giving you a snapshot of a moment in time, in a competitive landscape in which every factor can change from moment to moment. So, as many on this forum will tell you, it is not highly exact. It is designed to give you a starting point - and then, after the ad is running, you'll want to rely on your actual statistics to guide you in making adjustments, as mentioned by patient2all.
By the way, one very common reason for seeming "odd" results occurs when an advertiser is targeting more than one country - and especially so, if they're targeting the entire world.
This is because the Traffic Estimator gives you an estimate that is averaged across all the countries you've targeted. But not every country will be equally competitive for your keywords.
Here's a silly hypothetical example to illustrate the point:
Lets' say you've targeted the entire world, and for the keyword 'wooden nickel' you're appearing in position 1 or 2 in 98% of the world, as the keywords is not very competitive. However, in the United States, the keyword is very competitive, and you appear in position 39.
On average, across all countries, your position would be, say 2.0 - and this is what the Traffic Estimator reports. However, in the US, where you're actually looking, you see position 39, which makes the Estimator seem way off.
Hope that makes sense.
