Google Adwords on DrudgeReport

I was using Drudge today and noticed that on some reloads he was displaying Google Adwords instead of a normal banner.

The ads were being pulled from pagead.googlesyndication.com.

As I reloaded several times it would alternate between a graphic banner ad and Google Adwords. Seems to be random between the two.

Anyone else seeing it?

I couldn't find anything on the net regarding it...yet.

Any site with over 20 million page views per month can apply and have good chance of becoming an adwords content partner. Drudge certainly qualifies.

So drudge probably signed on, and thats that. You'll begin seeing pagead.googlesyndication.com on many popular sites without much news about it.

I thought it good news because he's an indie journalist and seems to be going in the right direction (textads are a good thing) while a lot of major media is moving toward 'bigger banners.'

He may also be using one of the aggregated ad servers. I know one, but cant remember the name, offers people serving their ads to display adwords as well as banners ads. Fastclick?

Yes, there was much discussion about FastClick, BurstMedia is also announced as one of their partners, but I don't know if they are serving yet, and I noticed a referal on one of my campaigns (forgot to turn off content ads on that one) from TribalFusion.

I clicked on the 'run ads...' button on the site. Looks like he has an ad agency representing him. Maybe it's not that big of news. I'd never noticed them before, though.

Maybe he'll go to all Adwords soon?

AFAIK it's TWO million, not twenty, and it's from the adwords FAQ ( although I can't find it! )

Allthough I'm sure that it used to be 2 million.. Damn. I was hoping to put google adwords on my site.

To get a better picture of the traffic Drudge is getting, look down the lower right hand column.

Current number of sessions is,

"148,140,465 IN PAST 31 DAYS".

Yes, that's 148 million a month. This guy is a major media outlet.

I visit Drudge several times a day (my start page) and I see rotation between Adwords Synd. and other banners related to politics. I do know that he uses Fastclick since I once inquired for advertising on his website. Sometimes they shoot out pop-ups and sometimes in Adwords... I guess they are in control of the type of ad that gets displayed meaning it's not just a banner deal. Most of the Adwords I've seen were for subscriptions to news magazines or newspapers - targetted stuff. Kudos to Google.

With 6 million I'd give it a shot, even though the faq says 20. If your site is a good match why not try...
