As an AdWords API Beta user we just received an email announcing the release of the API in open-beta form to any and all Adwords advertisers.

Further information is publicly available at [google.com...]

I was amazed at the response times for updating MaxCPC's...
Overture's API can drag, sometimes up to 30 seconds before a response comes back. G was solid at less than 1 second per request all day long!

When using the traffic estimator service of the API, I see this field called "notShownPerDay" which I have not seen on the Adwords website. What could be the significance of this?

After wondering and testing for about 2 hours why the API PHP snippets worked fine on my live server but not on the local machine I finally activated the php_curl extension in php.ini and now it works local too. Curl seems to be necessary for the https-communication and was not enabled in my default php.ini.

In addition there seems to be some problem with the PHP samples and the latest nusoap version 1.84. At least on my server I kept getting "No email specified" errors and it works with the older nusoap 1.82 only.

rincey - had the same problem with the "no email specified" error on NuSOAP 1.84 as well.

Marshall Clark,

You should use version 1.82. There seems to be a bug with 1.83 and 1.84 in setting the correct header.

Hello Everyone,

Thought I would copy a post to here that I had over in the Google Adwords API forum to see if anybody here could help out.

I was hoping someone could help me with understand exactly how to estimate traffic for potential keywords that aren't yet in any campaign
or adgroup.

I simply want to use the new API during my keyword research process to get an estimate for the potential numbers of searches available for each keyword.

Based on what's listed at
[google.com...] it seems as though this is possible and would be similar to doing this through a screen-scraping routine such as one at [hacks.oreilly.com...]

Looks like what I don't get using Google's new api, however, is the ability to get estimates with specific country and language targeting options since apparently it only allows global targeting.

So, three questions:

1) Does the API that I reference do what I need?

2) Any ideas for estimating keywords WITH country and language targeting options?

3) Would I be able to estimate keyword traffic for positions 1, 2 and 3, and so on simply by creating an iterating function that increments and decrements the maxCpc field of KeywordRequest until the avgPosition
in the KeywordEstimate response achieves each of those positions?

Bottom line, I just want to create a nifty little application that will allow me to quickly and easily return the traffic estimates for certain keywords for the top 3 positions.

I would be truely indebted to anybody who could help me figure this out and hopefully this solution would help many other people as well.

Thanks.

Not sure the API is the way to go. Your quota will get consumed pretty quickly..

Is this [adwordsapi.blogspot.com] legitimate and if so, are they ever going to post some more?

Odd - You'd think it'd be posted on the Google blog (http://www.google.com/#*$!/) if it was legit.

AWA - can you please confirm or deny the authority of that site as it relates to Google?

The blog is linked to from this page, so I'm fairly sure it's legit:

Sorry amznVibe, and eWhisper - I haven't been visiting this thread regularly, as it's sort of beyond my realm to add any value, sorry to say.

In any case, yes, that is indeed a legitimate blog, originating at Google.

I've rattled a few cages over at that end of the plex, and it was pretty hard to find those guys as they're really busy just now - which might explain why there are no new posts. ;)

So yes, it's legit, and new posts as time permits!
