I have a campaign that makes about $100 bucks in profit out of $100 spent. I also have about 15 different keywords that get clicksthroughs to the merchant site. Is there any way to track which clicks/keywords resulted in actual conversions?

People here speak of 'trimming the fat' - Can someone clue me in on how this is done? it seems to me you lose all tracking ability once the user is in the merchant's site?

help!...

It depends on each various program. Most allow you to do this is some way or another, but with a few you cannot. Research.

You can send each keyword to a different URL. For instance with Amazon you can request multiple tracking IDs. I apply a different tracking ID to a keyword that I want to get a better feel for conversion.

Many affiliate programs do allow for tracking ids but you may have to search for it. Some sites leave it off their basic "Get Links" page so as not to confuse newbies. On the other hand, some don't offer anything beyond the basic.

BTW, I'm having the same problem with a modest affiliate (but parasite free!) network where I don't know which PPC is getting the sales.

As Ned suggests, Amazon will give you up to 1500 tracking ids. You need to write their support and make a formal request. I got 20 and they taught me an immense amount as to what works. It was like a whole new door opened to me.

In CJ, you can tack unique SID field onto each visitor as you send them through to your merchants.
The CJ reports give you SIDs and commission while the Adwords reports give you cost, ad, and keyword. If you track your visitors correctly, then you can match this all up and running a query will produce ROI by keyword.

This can even be done with PPC->merchant.

Ahh..thanks, that helps a lot! I am familiar with CJ's SID options, but never thought of it associated with PPC.

it seems to me that this level of tracking and conversion can't be done by the majority of non network merchants... I know the one merchant I'm working with can't, unless I were to have 10 different accounts with them. hmmm...
