I saw it for the first time and can not believe it:
4 sponsored results on top of the organic results when i search for a financial commerical phrase in google.

Google was supposed to be the good guy which competed with the yahoo and msn to bring down the sponsored results that they show rather then joining their ranks.

Prediction:
2007 jan google will be another web company which had great potential but then lost touch with what made it great.

Do you get it guys:
Surfers dont like sponsored results.

Duh! Karma .. If you leave more on table more people will come and sit on the table

Google's always trying out a few things.

I don't know how far Google can push things with ads before a large segment of their users seriously look elsewhere. They keep chipping away and adding more ads.

topgun, why do you say searchers don't like sponsored results?

On most of the terms I have experience in, both from a PPC and SEO perspective, at least 50% (often as high as 80%) of all traffic goes to these sponsored results.

I agree with the overall sentiment though - 4 sponsored is too much.

Google's always trying out a few things.

Yes, this is just a small scale test.

As part of that test, though, I'll pass on the mostly 'not-in-favor' feedback from this thread. ;)

what do we favour instead

2 premium listings and 10 organic (organic meaning client pays SEO on a ppc model) listings instead.

wake up folks

most industries , the above is happening

u dont think Uncle G want a share of that ;)

When I see the CTR for some of our terms I can not agree that searchers don't like sponsored results.

Our CTR across our entire campaign of around 100 terms is 3.8%. This is just too high a number to say searchers don't like them.

At least Google segments their sponsored listings properly.

Most SE's make the ads blend in with the regular results.

^True. They are one of the better search websites, no doubt. And that's partly why they have a large share of the market. I just hope they don't blow it by following the other search websites.

AWA, the ton of sponsored listings in Yahoo is one of the reasons I don't use their search engine most of the time.
