Im investigating the possibility of making an Adwords ad for every single product which will land on the product page on the website.
I have a few questions as follows which I could use some advice on:
1) Do you think this is a good/bad idea? Any drawbacks, or major advantages in your opinion?
2) Assuming I could write a script to generate 2000 adwords adverts with a list of associated keywords (eg, exact match on product titles) I want the ad to appear for, does Google offer any automated way to upload this data? (like hell im going to sit there any type it all in manually!).
3) Has anyone done a similar thing already?
4) Does anyone here handle such a large number of Ad's that could give advice about how to keep track of them all? - Specifically I would like to "auto-disable", or have ad's brought to my attention (eg, an email) if the conversion rate drops below a set percentage.
5) I heard a rumor that google were charging $5 if they disabled an Ad for whatever reason. Is that true? do they still do it? and does it apply to UK advertisers?
PS: I AM aware of Froogle and will use that as well, but I would also like products to appear via content match and paid listings in the search results as well.
Provided the conversion rate and ROI are healthy, budget will not be an issue.
Any advise would be much appriciated.

I have 1.2 million unique products. The portion that were done by hand reach 6% CTR while the generic ones sneak by at .8%
just my 2c
I use the "keyword insertion" method to try to make the ads look unique.

And yeah it's cool to easily have 1000's of items on adwords.
However I have also created individual ad groups for products that do much better CTR wise.

The down side to this is that it takes a lot of manual entry of the ads. There is no batch tool if you want really unique ad copy for each product.
There is a batch load program for adwords. There are a few limations with it. There can only be 2000 items per ad group. Also all the keywords in the adgroup use the same ad copy.
I would be interested in hearing more about this, is there a section on Google that goes over this function, or is it only available to "those that ask"?
