Can URL's on a page trigger ads?

Never thought about this.

Let's say you're an advertiser and you want an ad to appear on a site if a particular URL exists on that page. Can you specify that as an ad trigger? For example, you're advertising on Adwords for red widgets and you want your ad to appear if there's a link to "redwidgets.com" (maybe a competitor, maybe an information site about red widgets). Seems this would be useful if the page(s) you're advertising on don't necessarily include the terms you're looking to use to trigger your ads (e.g., A website says, "I bought some of these widgets today.").

Hello HughMungus,

To answer your question with one word, Yes.

Now for a further explanation of why.
Adwords system currently does this with the content match feature.
What happens is when you the advertiser adds xyz.com as one of your keywords.
Adwords then will relates your ad to anyone searching for xyz.com and will also relate your ad to any pages that it finds about xyz.com.
Now this doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be on the page that someone mentions xyz.com on as the page might be more about another subject and/or your ad might be out performed by other advertisers under the same term. But it does mean that you’ll have a chance of being on that page.
