One of my words is on trial with a 1.5 ctr.

If it maintains that ctr is it in danger and what does it take to regain normality?

Best, S

Your CTR of 1.5% includes both Google search and partners' search.

You have to maintain your CTR of 0.5% on Google search to be in "normal" status.

Your keyword is "in trial" status because the keyword is doing badly in the Google search. To improve the Google search, you may try some new ads for the keyword. Write a killing ad!

The easiest solution is to increase the max. CPC.

Thanks.

Just to be clear I am only running on the search network, not the content network.

You are saying there are partners on the search network, right?

Cheers, S

Does anyone have any idea what the default max number of on-trial keywords for an account is? I had a large number of ads humming along there for a few weeks, and now many of them are on hold waiting for a trial.

From adwords help:

There are a limited number of in trial keywords per account, so when this limit is reached, additional keywords will be moved to on hold status with priority given to those keywords with higher predicted CTRs. Accounts that have proven to perform very well will be rewarded with a greater number of in trial keywords. The limitation placed on the number of keywords that may be in trial helps ensure that users continue to see the most targeted, relevant ads via the AdWords program.

Farside847, there really isn't a default number - rather, it is dependent on performance of the keywords in the account. Essentially, the larger the number of keywords that are performing as 'normal', the larger the number of 'in trial' keywords available.

The kernel of the answer is contained in the info you quoted, where it says:

Accounts that have proven to perform very well will be rewarded with a greater number of in trial keywords.
