No Impressions for 90 days = KW Offline?

I've heard conflicting reports from Google reps that say if a keyword receives 0 impressions 90 days, that the keyword is then disabled.

However, this is like the broad match keyword only showing for phrase/exact match in that your account doesn't actually give you any details that this keyword is offline (they usually show moderate KW status), but it won't show for searches.

Anyone else heard such reports or confirmed if this is true?

Just did a search for a keyword that has never received a single impression in more than a year. I see the ad... and woaah.. there are lots of competitors too!

>>> this is like the broad match keyword only showing for phrase/exact match in that your account

Not sure if I got this right. I did a search for a keyword that has all three variants (broad, phrase and exact). Am I supposed to do a search for a keyword that has only broad match?

A search for a keyword that only has one match would truly be best as the other could be broad/phrase match variations.

I found some keywords the other day not showing up, talked to my rep who passed the issue to the tech team, and then suddenly the words started showing again, but my rep didn't know why they weren't showing for that time period.

I've heard mixed results from both Google reps and from advertisers on this issue - and wasn't sure if someone here had looked into this issue.

Missed this thread before: [webmasterworld.com...] that states sdani thinks its 30 days.

Just looked at another account that has a lot of very specific low volume/high converting keywords, and only a handful of the keywords were showing at all.

I have checked a couple with no impression history and they came up fine (all exact match).

I just received two completely different answers from Google again today.

Any ideas on this AWA?

eWhisper, I'll ping my 'Panel of Experts', and see what I can learn.

eWhisper - sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. I've been pretty busy here, and not posting on WebmasterWorld as much as I might like.

Anyway, I've pinged our tech folks, and they confirm that what Sdani was told concerning keywords with no impressions in the last 30 days is not correct. So, my apology to both Sdani and you for the conflicting answers you've received.

Here is what's up; several weeks ago, we initiated system clean-up procedures that periodically look for keywords that have never received a single impression over their entire lifetime. Although I'm not able to be precise about the timing, this is done only for keywords that have had a very long time to receive at least one single impression - even allowing for seasonality.

The goal here, as you might imagine, is to maintain the system so that no one can 'clog' the system with vast numbers of zero-performance keywords - which, after all is said and done - simply slow things down for all advertisers.

AWA,

That makes sense, thanks for the clarification.

AWA,

Makes sense, thanks for clarification. BUT .. why not change the status to "disabled", and keep showing the keywords as "Moderate"?

Thanks
