Also, when you put int a keyword and it suggests a bid price at first, is that 1 cent more than the top spot or how does that work.
I'm trying to gauge how many impressions a certain ad will get and also the top bid for certain keywords.
Thanks again!
Doesn't anyone know how this works. Can you help a newbie out? Thank you.

See! [google.com]
I don't think anyone knows how it works. Because it DOESN'T WORK!
Oh, my heart!
Seriously though, I'll continue to pass your comments on, regarding the usefulness of the Traffic Estimator tool.
In the meantime, hdpt00, here are a few headlines regarding the Traffic Estimator:
* The intent of the tool is to give you a ball-park estimate to get you started. Then you'll want to monitor what actually happens in the real world competitive landscape - and make adjustments based on your actual stats.
* The information shown in the Traffic Estimator amounts to a snapshot of a moment in time - in a program in which nothing stays constant from one second to the next.
* The estimated number of clicks/day that the Traffic Estimator gives should be taken with a grain of salt in my opinion. This is because the actual number of clicks you'll get depends entirely on whether your ads are well targeted to your keywords, whether your keywords are specific or too general, and whether the ads are crisp and well written. And, of course, the Traffic Estimator has no way to evaluate any of these factors as they pertain to your particular ads & keywords.

Is there any way at all what the top bids are around for a certain keyword though?
There is not really a way to see what the top bids are for keywords, hdpt00. This is because your ad's position on the page is also 50% determined by the keyword's clickthrough rate (CTR). As a result it entirely possible for Advertiser A to appear above Advertiser B, while paying less.
Position is not a fixed thing, btw - and will vary from search to search based on your Max CPC and your CTR as compared to the Max CPC and CTR of all your competitors in the moment of the search.

Is it possible to get a range like if its $.05 or closer to $.60 stuff like that using the traffic estimator?
Ok AWA, sorry to be a nuisance but how about this:
No worries, I assure you! ;)

hdpt00, when you create a new Ad Group you enter a list of keywords. In the next step, you're given a suggested Max CPC that would allow you to be 'competitive' in the moment you are checking. If I've understood you correctly, then I think that this amounts to the range that you are asking about.
In an existing Ad Group you can go the Traffic Estimator, and get estimates of position, etc. for any Max CPC that you care to enter. However, you will not see the system generated suggested Max CPC that you see when you create a new Ad Group.
IMO, though, it is best to set your ad running at a comfortable Max CPC, monitor what actually happens, and then make adjustments based on your actual stats.
Your actual stats will always be more meaningful, accurate, and useful than an estimate. ;)

It's easy to understand and get other people to understand an Overture proposal, much more difficult to make sense of anything with the AdWords estimator.

I really think this system needs some work. This morning, I was setting up some AdGroups, and the first time I received an estimation of $10.67 - way to high. So, I wanted to see it again, and the next time I got $5.63 - still way to high. I settled for a much lower number, and every keyword except 1 is in first place. So, 1 keyword out of 2,000 was causing this very high price to be shown. It seems showing a price per keyword, or tweaking the tool in some way would be a great help.
Any chance of showing the number of searches over the last 30 days or previous month, buy content, search syndication and Google.com, or even on just Google.com? It would make things much easier for folks doing it in-house and when selling to clients.
