This may have been discussed on this board before but I just wanted to make sure if I understand.

Let's say I provide an accounting service in New York City and I have 3 AdGroups for the same keywords but different matching type:

AdGroup 1 (broadmatch): accounting service NYC
AdGroup 2 (phrase match): "accounting service NYC"
AdGroup 3 (exact match): [accounting service NYC]

Assuming I have only 1 keyword above for each AdGroup and everything else with these 3 AdGroups is identical (e.g. CPCs, ad copies, daily budget, etc), when a Web user keys in the search term "accounting service NYC", which AdGroup will give a higher position for my ad?

How about for these search terms:

1) accounting service in NYC (with "in")
2) affordable accounting service NYC
3) affordable accounting service in NYC
4) accounting NYC
5) accounting in NYC
6) NYC accounting
7) NYC accounting service
8) accounting NYC service
9) accounting in NYC service
10) affordable accounting NYC
11) affordable accounting in NYC
12) affordable NYC accounting
13) affordable NYC accounting service
14) affordable accounting NYC service
15) affordable accounting in NYC service
16) accounting service NYC

Which match-type (or which AdGroup above) will give the ad highest position for each of these search terms?

Thank you!

Post 10 & 11 of this thread should answer your question:
[webmasterworld.com...]

The system first looks for exact, if it doesn't find one, then it looks for phrase, if it doesn't find one, then it looks for broad. The most exact match is chosen first.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. But the thread you mentioned about talks about which match-type of a keyword that gets the impression when someone searches for the term.

My question is not about which one that gets the impression, but rather, which match-type gives the best position when all 3 receive the impression?

I guess using different AdGroups to illustrate my question was not a good idea. How about using totally 3 different accounts from 3 different advertisers?

So, Advertiser 1 uses exact match, Advertiser 2 phrase match, Advertiser 3 exact match, all for the same keyword "accounting service NYC". Assumming all other factors are equal, which advertiser get their ad ranked higher when someone searches using one of the terms (1 to 16) above?

Thanks.

As far as I know, all else being equal (and it will virtually never be) money talks. Regadless of match type, whichever ad the AdWords algo projects will make Google the most money will be the one shown highest in the ad listings.

Hey,

As far as I know, all else being equal (and it will virtually never be) money talks. Regadless of match type, whichever ad the AdWords algo projects will make Google the most money will be the one shown highest in the ad listings.

But CTR does count for something... right? KeyWord CTR I should say. In fact it should count for a lot.

You're both correct.

CTR and EPC combined determine which ad is likely to make G the most revenue, hence which ad is likely to rank higher.
