Hi

I'm testing the google conversion tracker alongside my own but I need to get rid of the graphic.

Does anyone know if I can safely reduce the size of the thing to 1x1 px without affecting the stats?

Thanks

Hi elgumbo,

I can't find it at the moment, but there's a thread here from about two months ago in which AWA said that it was against the TOS to resize the image.

But no, it wouldn't affect the performance.

Thanks Sanenet

I'll take a look at the TOS.

You can always chime in here too about your opinion of the G image:

If you are using CSS you could absolute position it off screen, though I am sure that is against the TOS as well.

I think the tracking does not work if you have omitted the image.

Actually if the image is floated offscreen, it is not being omitted - just something like this in the head:

<style type="text/css"> div.adwords { margin-left: -300px; } </style>

and then

<div class="adwords">
$adwords code
</div>

Anyhow I think their free conversion tracking is pretty cool, so if they want to make sure that people see their privacy policy regarding conversion tracking, well, that's fine with me.

Gosh, for some reason I'm feeling compelled to post a link to the AdWords Terms and Condtions, along with a repeat of my occasional message that it is a very good document to have read thoroughly. ;)

Here's the link:

Conversion tracking in particular is discussed in #4.

BTW, there's a link to this doc at the bottom of every page in one's account.

AWA - don't worry, I haven't done that, and have no plans to start doing it.

I had a client that liked a free hit counter service that they had been using for a couple of years, but didn't like the giant graphic, so I just floated it offscreen so it would continue to work and not be prominent.

Heh - No worries on your end either, PatrcikDeese. ;)

Now that I am just a post or two away from 1000 posts, it's probably as good a time as any to say that I am decidedly not here on WebmasterWorld to be the AdWords police.

Instead, I'm here because I want to provide information and insight, to correct the occasional mis-information, and also to learn from all of you about what works and doesn't work for you in your experience with AdWords. All of this is in line with my goal of serving as an effective Customer Advocate for AdWords advertisers, both on this forum and elsewhere.

To go a bit further, if any 'setting of minds at ease' is called for, please know that I don't know who any of you are in terms of your AdWords accounts. I'm really quite scrupulous about this, and more than that, I very much don't want to know. BTW, on the 4 or 5 occasions on which someone has sent their account info to "Attn: AWA", you may rest assured that I've keep no records of any sort.

I can say with complete honesty that I am not able to connect a single WebmasterWorld member with a single AdWords account - either by accident or on purpose.

So PatrcikDeese, while this is more of an answer than you ever expected, I'm sure, thanks for providing me with an opportunity to say all this. ;)
