Does anyone know of any stats on the AdWords and Overture reach/market share compared with other pay-per-click SE advertising?

Such stats would be needed for search advertising only, and not contextual ads (AdSense or Content Match) or paid inclusion.

I don't know all the details but I do know overture reach is larger than adwords without using AdSense or Content Match.

Who has more traffic is industry specific speculation.

About half my accounts, OV and G have almost equal traffic. The other half varies as to which delivers more traffic, but in several of them G easily beats OV without content targeting.

As far as delivering more traffic, google may be the winner. As far as reaching more people (ad impressions), overture may be the winner and is also more expensive.

Then you will have to breakdown on the quality of traffic, for our company overture's traffic quality is higher since it gives us more leads but it does come at a cost.

Adwords is way more expensive for us.

For us Adwords does more volume. Conversions are about the same but the cost on OV are higher. I find the management of OV campagnes a lot more work. This is where G shines :)

I must say ever since I learned how to bid seperately for content targetting, I don't understand why people wouldn't include content targetting.

Im not sure about stats but I recently ran a campaign using adwords on Google and I tracked every site visit through the logfile and NOT A SINGLE ONE came from my adwords campaign. As far as I am concerned Adwords are a waste of space - no one hardly clicks on them as everyone wants something for nothing on the net and they know that they will normally have tyo pay for everything in Adwords adverts. I did far better using Overture.

At my corporation overture was used for about 2 years and adwords beats it by a mile as far as getting actually sales. So we dropped overture even though it brought the traffic it didn't convert like adwords does.

I am sort of in the camp of using both AdWords and Overture, and getting the maximum coverage. ;)

I'd say, though, that it's really important to truly learn each system in order to get the maximum performance out of it - and having done that, then adjust your spend for each to be in line with your conversions.

Now, if I had to pick just one, well, you already know the answer to that! :)

Actual reach figures? Well, this is not really my arena - but the recent 'Google reach' figures that come to mind for me are below. I'll try to confirm that these are current, and post again if I learn differently.

Reach of Google alone = approx 40% of Internet users.

Reach of Google + partner network = approx 80% of Internet users.

I was reading a 6ish month old thread earlier today where I asked you if you used OV (and didn't expect an answer then).

Guess time tells all...

Although,

Reach of Google + partner network = approx 80% of Internet users.

Can you tell me where this comes from? Is that net users for a month or?, like if someone searched Y 100 times in a month, and G once, then they are counted in Gs reach?

So together, Y + G reach = 150% of all net users?

Just gotta love stats...:)

It is a % out of all the people who use the internet.

I recall that this was from a 'Media Metrix' report dated 12/03. I haven't seen the report, but just recall it coming up in a conversation.

Neither am I a statistician! What I take this statistic to mean is that pages from Google, plus all partner sites, may be seen by 80% of all people using the Internet.

So together, Y + G reach = 150% of all net users?

No, I think it is ok for a person to see more than one site! So a lot of the 80% who have seen Google or partner pages have visited other sites as well, almost certainly including 'competing sites'. ;)

I knew I should have stayed away from actual statistics - I hate not knowing exactly what I'm talking about! The vocabulary of statistics is so not native to me.
