Here's the scenario -

I would like to display different text for different search phrases:

Search: Jumping blue widgets
Suggested Bid: .27
Ad: Our blue widgets jump best

Search: Rolling Blue Widgets
Suggested Bid: .24
Ad: Our blue widgets roll fastest

Search: Blue Widgets
Suggested Bid: 2.50
Ad: We've got blue widgets that do it all

My questions:
How can I get the cheaper more targeted ads displayed for the more targeted searches, and keed the less targeted for a catch all?

Do I need to set up mutiple campaigns?

Can I manage it all under one budget?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Ross

hey Ross.
I just started on Ad Words today and I have the same questions as you. We'll have to learn together. LOL

I am going to answer this just so I may learn myself, but you asked "How can I get the cheaper more targeted ads displayed for the more targeted searches, and keed the less targeted for a catch all? "

If someone corrects me ok, no problem, but I think you can specifiy as lower Max CPC and end up in a lower position, which is what I am trying to find out in my other post.

Just to clarify.... What I want is to pay the cheaper rate for top billing on a targeted search, and only pay the higher rate for top billing on the less targeted (and seemingly more competitive) search.

This shuld be this hard. Maybe I'm just slow :-(

No, you're not slow. It is a little confusing in the beginning. Once we start doing some Google ads, we'll both be pros in a few weeks. :)

RossWal,
Since you have three ads and each ad is designed for certain phrase keywords, you need at least three ad groups to do so. You can not have three ads in the same ad group because you won't able to control.

If you have three ad groups:

Ad group 1:

Search: Jumping blue widgets
Suggested Bid: .27
Ad: Our blue widgets jump best

Ad group 2

Search: Rolling Blue Widgets
Suggested Bid: .24
Ad: Our blue widgets roll fastest

Ad group 3

Search: Blue Widgets
Suggested Bid: 2.50
Ad: We've got blue widgets that do it all

you can control as you specified above. And these ad groups can be located in one campaign.

Thanks FR. It looked to me like I could set up multiple add groups under one campaign, but then I had trouble doing so. I was a little foggy this morning, I'll have another look and get it sorted out.
