We have had about 400 clicks from the new content ads for the last few days. Since last november we had turned off the content ads because the conversion was so low that the ROI for the campaign couldn't continue.

With the announcement of new smart pricing, we wnated to try it again and setup new campaign and tested for about 5 days now. We didn't want to spend too much on it, so I set the max CPC quite low compared to our original search campaigns. We hav had about 400 clicks to that campaign. 400 includes some of the search clicks due to the Adwords estup (You can choose "search only", "Search+Syndication", or "Search+Content"). So whatever your configuration, you have change to show the ads on Google.com but not AOL.com etc if you choose "Search+Content".

OK, you may say 400 is too few to be a sample. So far, no sales, no conversion, nothing. Normal conversion is 0.5 - 1.5%. So we should see some conversion...

I will update as time goes.

If you have similar test or any other experiences, please share with others here.

I realize you probably don't want to be too specific, but what's your product or service category? (E.g., automotive, pharmaceutical, industrial widgets, travel, or...?)

We have a campaingn where Content Match has been on perpetually. The results from 4/5thru 4/11 days look like this:

397,000 Imps for 1700 Clicks @ Pos. 2.1 for $.30 yielded 1.23% Conversion Rate

Compare to 3/22thru 3/28
391,000 Imps for 1800 Clicks @ Pos. 1.7 for $.30 yielded .87% Conversion Rate

(Over 10 sales in both periods)

Smart pricing does not appear to be lowering CPC but maybe its because the conversion is too good.

My complaint is that the details are so sketchy. I don't want to invest (actually gamble) a bunch of money turning Content Match on in my other campaigns when I don't know the rules.
