How can I avoid the top vertical position?

At CeBIT last week, one customer told me that for a certain keyword we where nowhere to be found at Google. I knew for sure that we are, so I checked today.

Thing is: we are at the top vertical position - and I think this is an undesirable spot.

In another thread I heard that lowering your click-price will get you to position #2. My problem is that the keywords don't match at all.

Searchphrase: blue widgets

My keywords for the ad: blue widgets

Keywords for ads #2-#4 obviously: blue

So I'm ALWAYS the most relevant ad for this searchphrase, and if I understand it right I stand no chance on getting to #2 in a normal way.

Any advice?

The fact that your ad uses a more targetted keyword would not automatically put you in top place. The reason is that you ad has a much higher CTR so ranks better, and costs less. Reducing your bid should, in theory, move you down the list, except that you cannot reduce it below the minimum.

I have found that the top ad gets more clicks but generally lower conversion. If you are paying the minimum bid and getting the top position I would not complain.
