Still a new boy to adwords so keep trying new things,
Is it worth pausing your campaign at night? and also has anyone any experience at times to pause at quite times during the day?

My daily budget just keeps on rising so would like to save a bit of cash pausing if possible, or indeed if you think it makes any difference (my main campaign UK only)i have only a handfull of keywords so i am optimised there.

Thanks

Paul

I think the answer to your question depends on what visitors from Adwords do when they reach your site at different times of the day.

Since you're only paying for clicks, it doesn't cost anything to keep your ads running at night if no one clicks through.

What you need to figure out is if your ads convert better during certain day parts (say, when people are at work, or when they are at home). It's also possible that your ads will convert on certain days better than others.

Once you know this information, you'll better be able to decide when to pause your campaign.

You really shouldn´t ever have to pause your campaigns. Unless your site is down of course.

Pausing your ads or having a really low daily budget is an ineffective way of conserving your cash. Your ads work or they don't. If they work, they should run all the time (with some rare exceptions not relevant to this discussion).

If they don't work, then you need to fix this problem. In your case, maybe your bids are too high.

Just a quick post to bring up another factor worth keeping in mind, when trying to decide whether or not to pause for substantial portions of the day.

Many advertisers feel that it is important to show all the time to capture the folks who may click on the ad early in the day, but who return later in the day, to look for the ad again with the intention of purchasing.

If they don't see your ad when they look the second time, they may have the patience to wait - or they may just click on one of the other ads that they do see right then.

In my experience, most people, if they don't see an ad - don't assume its down at that time, they think its gone. Net marketing is one of the few places where you can appear one minute, gone the next, and people don't know where to find you anymore.

Consistancy in visibility will pay off in the long run.

Paul, slightly off topic, but still related:
aa) improve your ad so that you get a high CTR and good conversion
bb) the ad position is the product of max bid times CTR, so the higher your CTR the better your position gets. When in a good postion, you can start to decrease the max bid slightly without (hopefully) losing position.
