My best campaign did 2.4% over the last week and my median was about 1.7%. Is that good, bad, average?

What kind of things can I do to improve it? I have alot of keywords for some campaigns, would trimming down on the not absolutely nessecary keywords help? Although a good deal of keywords don't even get impressions, so is that effecting my click thru rate?

Try different variations of you ad text, Adwords will automatically optimize for the best performing ad and your CTR will go up after some time. You can also "weed out" keywords that have a relatively low CTR (0.5-1%)

So should I 'weed out' keywords that get no impressions over a period of time (ex: month or so)? Do keywords that don't receive any impressions have a negative effect on your CTR?

If keywords do not have impressions they do not have a negative impact on your overall CTR (and they are quite useless as getting impressions and clicks is what counts).

Just start optimizing your ad text by making multiple ads per adgroup.
