We have had a spot in AdWords for quite sometime and have always
been at the top banner for our main keyword. Recently some of our
competitors have started using AdWords. So for us to stay at the top banner position,
we increased our daily budget and increased our CPC. This kept us at the top banner spot until
we edited our AdWord site. Afetr editing, we can not get onto the banner ads in AdWord. We only
get the top spot in the "Boxed" ad on the right side.

Anybody have any ideas as to what we can do to get back to the banner spot. We have tried to increase
our CPC and daily budget but that does not help.

Welcome to Webmasterworld tablepad!

What did you change in your AdWord? Did you remove any of the keywords used in your AdGroup? Positions are based on bids and click through rates.

We did not change any keywords. All we changed was the ad title and description.

Well I guess that the changes in the title and description have led to a lower CTR and therefore a lower position.

never ever touch/play with anything which has resulted in u being in pole position.

suppose this is a bit like the natural google algo, where 1 doesn't know how the top spot is actually reached.

I feel your pain.

We have a term at just 5¢ that flucuates in and out of the banner posistion depending on CTR. If we have a day at 10% or less it seems to fall out. As soon as it goes above 10% (today it's at 22% on low volume) it pops back up into the upper spot.

If you need to make a change, it's best to create a new Ad. if possible.

Remember also that an adword can't be promoted to the top premium spot until it's been reviewed by the adwords editors.

Your ad might be promoted again in a few days once it's been approved. Until then, you've got to languish on the right hand side...

I agree with all the others, but I find it better to be on the right-hand side in the top 4 than to be in the premium positions. A few people I have checked with say that they tend to overlook those ads.

Some of my best clickthroughs have come from positions as low as 8 -- although it begs the question how they'd have done higher up (competitive words).

Yeah, if it is at the top, don't mess with it. If you want to change it, just start a new ad and wait till it performs at the top (if it does). Only thing is when you want to run a new ad, it takes a little time to get it back up on top and somewhat hurts your already top performing ads.

As one that has all campaigns performing at top placement, it sucks to bring in new ads, or even edit them.
