Looks like single word exact match KWs [widget] are not getting promoted. Anyone else notice this?

Deliberate meaning $$$$?

not necessarily $$$$.

just that they may NOT want to have the 1 words up there whilst they tweak adwords algo for total launch when premium listings dissapear in a few weeks.

Shak, I hope you are right. We do have 1 word broad match that is being promoted though.

Really, this is a very broad statement. And I wonder if it is based on the performance of such keywords in one account?

If so, I'd suggest the possibility that it may be these particular exact matched single word keywords that are not being promoted, rather than all exact matched single keywords.

As mentioned in other threads in the past, there is an additional performance bar that has to be met before ads are promoted. It isn't automatic, therefore, that the top performing AdWords ads will be sent north.

glitch or deliberate :)

Based on what I know of the algo, it is neither. Instead, it is likely to be due to keywords not meeting the additional standard mentioned above, IMO.

I'll check into this, and post again if I can learn more.

Thanks AWA & Shak. The KW involved has a 5%+ CTR and has had an avg. actual CPC as high as .07.

AWA,

I knew this day would come mate.

I have played around quite a bit with this, and say its NOTHING to do with the additional standard etc etc, but a strategic decision for 1 reason or another.

but hey, I dont work for Google, you do!

Shak,

Well, I am perfectly prepared to be wrong. I'll check into it and see what I can turn up in terms of additional details.

Probabaly won't get an answer in the next few hours though, as things are a bit busy on the engineering side of things today. ;)

Shak,

I think you are on to something. Our 1 word exacts all have the same or greater CTRs, actual paid CPC, etc. as our multi word exacts. None of our 1 word exacts are getting promoted.

Just a quick update on what I've been able to learn about this, by asking several folks who are very much in the loop.

Bottom line: no part of the algo, that they are aware of, is designed to prevent single word exact matches from being sent north.

So, I'd still call it circumstantial - although I know that Shak, among others, won't necessarily agree. But hey, that's the beauty of this forum!

AWA Thanks.

We'll hit you with a new conspiracy theory next week ;)

Hey, did you ever find out anything about: Ads/KWs with no competition not getting promoted to premium slots?

Hey, why wait till then? ;)

cayenne, I must be showing some signs the dreaded Not-Enough-Coffee syndrome. I'm almost certain that I responded to the thread that you mention, way back when, but can't find it now.

As I recall, my post essentially said that there is no measure in place to prevent keywords with no competition from Going North. That short trip UP is precipitated by a mix of actual CPC and CTR. And ads going north have an additional performance bar to meet, too.

I need to start taking notes about my past posts, so that I can find them later. I'm posting a lot more now that I get to spend more time in this forum (plus there is also my hidden agenda of catching up with GG!). Past posts are starting to escape me.

:)

aha.

I am seeing changes.

[exact match] 1 word phrase which for the last few weeks would not go up top, is today sitting up there.

interesting 30.7% CTR at 0.05p a click

Shak,

Does the KW have any competition?

Good, hopefully it'll trickle down throughout the system.

I've got a KW w/ 15.9% ctr, $0.31 cpc, 14k impressions/month, and 13 competitors thats still sidebarred.

I can't see any reason that KW is not being promoted to the g-spot.

Maybe we need to start a "Please Google, Lighten up on the Premium Position Hurdles" tread....or maybe some sort of online petition.

It looks like not many are making to the promised land under the current algo.

Now nothing is showing up in premium slots.

I've got more ads showing in premium spots today than I've have for the past couple weeks.

Think it's time for the next conspiracy theory.

Hopefully, the new changes have not propagated to all of G's servers yet, and that is why we are not seeing them from here (NYC). Nothing is showing for any term I search for including big $ terms.
