Can anyone say if clicking your own ad to bolster ctr is a good idea (does google monitor ip addresses )

or clicking competitions so that their MDB is reached earlier

ie can i ramp up my ctr to get a higher posistion then lower my cpc?

NO and YES.

Keep in mind that there are many people here in the Adwords forum who use Adwords

Google is smart, I think that they may have thought of this one. I would try and think of something more sophisticated, if you insist on gaming the system.

But, rather than waste your energy, why not write better creatives so that other people click them, and hey, maybe buy your product to boot! (or are you your best customer?)

lloydforth, so far as I know you'll not be 'penalized' for clicking on your own ad. However, I am 100% behind mipapage, who says:

In addition to mipapage's 'better creatives', I'd also suggest:

* really targeted keywords, and

* very targeted Ad Groups - each one advertising a specific product or service.

But I've gone on about this topic endlessly in recent threads. So I'll spare everyone another of my 'Be Targeted' speeches.

OOPS, didn't see this before.

...or clicking competitions so that their MDB is reached earlier

For certain, a no-no!

Sorry to have missed that in my first reading.

Sometimes when I create a new ad, I click on it once just to provide a good start, but after that, certainly not.

When Adwords was pretty new I tracked a competitor clicking on my ads every day. My CPC was high and I found it very annoying.

I then heard someone (?) created an automated/dedicated system that proxy'd and anony'd different IP's to click on the ads in such a way - at such a rate that it was impossible to tell if it was anything more than their product becoming less desirable to potential customers. Needless to say the company was gone from adwords in less than 1 quarter (3 months), and has not returned.

:)

ps: Google does impliment a number of tactics to eliminate everything your posts describe. They do track and are watching. If you think you can get away with something, unless you have researched it, your probably going to get taxed.
