Hi,

I'm new here and guess I shouldn't post until I read to see if my question has been previously answered, but I won't have time for a few days, and am pretty frustrated with my adwords, so I'm hoping someone will respond to this.

Question is - I developed two ads with 17 keywords each.
The "estimate" shows each keyword getting impressions and the estimated clickthrus. After going live, the ad only appeared under one of the keywords. I then got a "slowed" email and went and changed the ads a little and changed the keywords. Again, they all showed impressions in the "estimate", yet the ads still only appeared under one keyword. I see ads with less relevence than mine appearing, though. I got a 2nd "slowed" message and just paused one of the ads.

I must be doing something wrong, but have no idea. Would it be better to have a seperate ad for each keyword?

If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.
I could email the "estimate" chart if that might help.

Thanks in advance!

Hi bluez, and welcome to WebmasterWorld!

One detail you might want to check is the "Average Position" column for the keywords in your campaign. This position is tied to your CTR and your $ bid.

If your position is low, your ads will be served infrequently.

Also, if your ads are slowed, they will not be served frequently.

Finally, I would recommend that you check your campaign's daily budget. When your campaign reaches its daily maximum, your ads will not be served any more that day.

Take a look at those points and see if they help, if not, let us and we can continue to help you sort out your problem. :)

Thanks - I have the feeling I'll be here often :-)

they all seem to be under 10

>Finally, I would recommend that you check your campaign's >daily budget. When your campaign reaches its daily >maximum, your ads will not be served any more that day.

I never came close to my max.
Thake a look at the stats here
[208.11.138.9...]
I would be happy with being close to the estimate, but only one keyword got anything.

Only one keyword got any action.

I'm hoping! :-)

You might ask yourself whether the keywords you grouped under the same ad are related variants of each other. If they are, great, then it might be smart to keep them together. However, if they represent a cluster of related-but-different terms, it might be time to retool your strategy.

I've found that its best when your ad copy closely relates to the keywords the user searched.

[ed: finished a half-written sentence.]

For example, you might use the same ad copy to advertise for "blue furry widgets" and "blue widgets" but you might want a different ad copy for "red widget." Especially if the people who want red widgets wouldn't want a blue, furry widget. Speak to your audience's needs.

Unfocused or misfocused ad copy will reduce your CTR. You want your viewer to see the ad and say, "hey that's exactly what I'm looking for." Targeting terms with focused ads will produce higher CTR.

If your terms are closely related, then you might want to rework the ad copy. Google's Adwords FAQ defines the ad standards. However, for tips on writing good copy, check out the Content, Writing, and Copyright forum on WebmasterWorld. A good recent thread was Copy that Sells [webmasterworld.com].

bluez, I'm picking thru clues here, and the above quote leads me to believe that some of your keywords may be of a 'sensitive' nature.

Ordinarily, ads will show on Google for all keywords right away, even before the ads/keyword have been reviewed. However, certain keywords must be reviewed before they will trigger your ads. This may well be the case here.

When in doubt, contact AdWords support, and ask them to take a look.

One thing to check first, however: is it possible that your ads are showing on the second (or even third) page of the search results? Worth looking there, especially if you see an average position over 8.
