How to improve the CTR of a particula KW in a fresh AD campaign?

I recently started a ad campaign in a very competitive area. In spite of maintaining a very high CPC my CTR is not improving. My CPC is already very high. Atleast I'm looking for the break-even and I don't want to loose money. Please give me some ideas on improving my CTR. Is CPC the only factor involved in improving the CTR or anything else?

There are other advertisers who are using the same AD TITLE as mine. Will this anyway affect my CTR?

Ritenow my CTR is 0.6% and my CPC is $3.

Try different ad texts in your adgroup and let Google optimize them. Focus on the title first and then on the rest. Small changes can have a huge impact.

Are you making use of negative keywords to keep your ads from being shown in off-target searches?

Example: if I were promoting "blue dresses", I'd block the word "devil". Why? Because there's a song titled "Devil in a Blue Dress", and when people search for that they're more likely looking for lyrics than ladies' wear.

It can be very productive to spend some time with a search term suggestion tool looking for things to block, rather than things to bid on. Reducing "junk impressions" will help your CTR.

Robsp,

Okay for few more days I'll jus keep tryin different titles. How offten u ppl are checking your stats? Every 24 hrs or twice? If I change somethin with my ad, to findout the improvements how often you would advise me to check the stats?

buckworks,

Ritenow I'm jus concentrating on few exact matches. While starting a new ad campaign, how many KW's should I go with. Either start with max or min (exact matches and phrase matches)

Îf you're using exact matches, then you don't need to worry about blocking so you're okay that way.

As for the number of terms? The more the better, as long as they're (1) relevant and (2) reflect the vocabulary that would likely be used by your target audience.

One campaign I manage has several hundred terms in several ad groups, but there's one word we have learned to avoid like the plague. We discovered that the searchers most likely to describe the product that way are teenagers who are looking for ideas, but not actually shopping. Such traffic is okay (up to a point!) if it's free, but not if you are paying for clicks.

Sathish,

No need to check your stats all that much as G automatically optimizes for the better CTR ad. Make sure you create a few ads with different titles and also make sure that "optimizing" is on (in your campaign settings). This should already be the case as it is the default. If you combine [exact matches] with different ads you should see your CTR moving upwards within a few days.

If you want to know, I check the stats of my customers a zillion times per day as this is how I make a living :-)
