I'm having trouble understanding the way Adwords work in general.
What is the difference between the avg. pos for content targeting and search?

I understand you want a higher CTR % to get higher positioning, but I've read a few of the responses to the other messages and people have mentioned things that you don't want it to be higher than 5%, I'm not sure I understand that correctly.

Positioning on google adwords is determined by a combination of bid price and your adgroup's CTR.

For a given keyword the optimal combination of the two (most profitable for Google) gets placed in the number one spot.

The only reason why I could think of someone not wanting a CTR higher than 5% is that they have a budget and if their CTR is higher than 5% they burn through it too quickly.

Me, on the other hand love a 5%+ CTR.

Positioning on google adwords is determined by a combination of bid price and your adgroup's CTR.

Actually, your ads postion is determined by your Maximum CPC and your keyword's CTR.

To be more specific:

Max CPC x CTR = rank number. Your rank number, as compared to your competitor's rank number, determines ad positon.

More on this later this evening, as I finally get to Advertiser 123's earlier ranking question.
