Public Editorial Policies?

A site I work with just had their campaign put on hold because of a product type that appears elsewhere on the site. The product is legal and the only thing that I can imagine is that it runs afoul of some kind of politically correct sensitivity on Google's part.

Does Google publish any kind of document that clearly states editorial policies? We were planning a significant campaign, but the site owner (who removed a different product a few weeks ago to accommodate Google) is wary of some new dictum coming along after we are well into the program.

rogerd, my best advice would be to reply to the email which was sent to you regarding the product you mention.

In your reply, list the other products for which your client would like to advertise, and specifically ask if there would be any problems.

...the site owner...is wary of some new dictum coming along after we are well into the program.

Of course policy does evolve in relation to changing laws and so forth. So it's pretty hard to predict what might happen in the future. However the approach I suggest above will give you an accurate read of current policy for your actual products/services.

BTW, what you are referring to falls more squarely into the realm of policy, rather than Editorial Guidelines. However, it is worth mentioning that there is a link to the Editorial Guidelines at the bottom of every page in your account.

Thanks for the quick reply, AWA. I'll do as you suggest. The new requirement caught us off guard, as the site owner had made some changes a few weeks earlier to comply with a previous Adwords policy, and the site apparently passed muster at that time.

It seems that the CEO of Google has some rather extream political views that he impliments as policy at Google. You would think that he would have the hoor to at least tell people what he objects to before they sign up, but I guess he is afraid to list everything he opposes because it might make some other advertizers decide to boycott his company.

Not sure, but I think he might object to politicizing the search engine, or being seen as a supporter of any political views via Adwords or Adsense. Lots of folks out there that view an ad as an endorsement for the content it appears with.
