I am thinking of pay per click with google. Can some one enlighten me on their success with them? And say I set a very low budget of $50 a month. Would that even be worth it?

1st of all find out how much a targeted visitor to your site is worth!

If say your visitor is worth $0.10....if can find some decent positions in most keywords for less than that!

If you target your traffic and use [exact phrase] you can get a half decent click percentage above the needed 1% and also generate targeted traffic.

Start small and limit your campaign to 5$ per day and see how it goes.

In my opinion it has been worth it but dont give up and read the 'Adwords' forum for some valuble ideas.

It has been very much worth it for me. I have done Adwords for over a year now on a very small time level. In the last month I have done some extensive rework on my Campaigns and they are doing much better with only a slight increase in expense. I am very smal potatoes to Google though. Last month I only had a bit over $36 in ad fees. Many here probaly do that in less than an hour. I am trying to write extreamly targeted ads which while they don't get outstanding Click Thru Rates (CTR) they do result in high sales conversions even for general term searches. I get 30%+ CTR for more targeted terms. I don't think I currently have a any CPC's higher than 15 cents currently. Most under 10 cents. I am in a niche market though selling handmade widgets instead of mass market widgets that have hundreds or thousands of sites tryng to sell the same thing.

I would say give it a try for a month or two and see how it works. You can learn a lot just by looking over this forum and save yourself some hard learning experiences.

I agree with the feedback so far and like to add that for some very specific niche markets I've been able to generate leads for less than 5$ a month. It is all about being specific enough and of course depends on your business (if you are running an Internet casino or something similar this is not going to fly :-)

Just give it a shot!

Thanks for the input. How do you begin to decide what keywords to use. I wouldn't have any idea what people might type in to get to my site.

There is a whole forum devoted to picking keywords:

[webmasterworld.com...]

The first thing I would say is decide what you are "selling" be it literally selling widgets or just trying to pass on information. Sy for example you sell "brandx widgets". The most obvious keyword is Widget and widgets. These will work well if there is not a lot of competition, but if there is you will either have to bid high or have a very compelling ad, or both. You might be better off going with "red widgets", "professional widgets", or "brandx widgets" which may not have as many people competing for the terms and may more accurately describe your products.

If you are looking at the budget (cost) and not the benefit of spending that budget (sales) and the Return on Investment (ROI or profit), then you are looking at the wrong metrics.

By all means spend $50 to prove the concept works, and then look at how you can spend $500 and $5000.
