For all Adwords clients, after 100s of conversations at Pubcon.

The Title is what its all about.

NO R.O.I >>> then go R.I.P

Its not about high priced bids on single keywords, its about low price bids on 1000s of relevant 2, 3 and 4 words etc etc.

and make sure continual optimisation is done on a regular basis, done cleverly you should have the ultimate money maker.

and if you really want, just send me your username and password (joke).

Quite right. But I think this is where text ads differentiate from offline advertising (like billboards), or even banner ads (at a push). I don't think text ads are any good for building up a brand or planting 'nice thoughts' in the prospect's mind. Billboards, print ads, and the like, on the other hand, can and do.

The keycards in the hotel had a picture of a nice dripping Coke bottle on the back. I was looking at it, just before going to the bar, and thought 'Hmmm, I could do with a nice Coke,' so it worked. But do text ads have a similar effect? I don't think so, I think they're a 'respond now or forget immediately' form of advertising.. although if anyone disagrees, I'd love to hear your views!

Might have worked at PubCon, but I think we're all sober now :-)

Works for branding as part of a through the line campaign. Too many advertisers operate one side of the line or the other. Many large advertisers do multi million campaigns on branding and then some affiliate bidding 5p on a keyword reaps the benefit of that advertising online.

Shak is right on.

Tweak, tweak, tweak and then tweak some more, Adwords will run aspects of a campaign without your intervention, but will it run on it's own? Absolutely no way.
