Difference between "widget" and [widget] and widget

What is it?

Hi

When running some ads with "widget", [widget] and widget as the keywords, I found that "widget" usually wins (eg gets all the hits). Here is how I understand it, please correct me if I am wrong:

widget - broad matching, will show in anything with the word widget in it (eg. widget this, that widget)
"widget" - no idea how this differs from [widget]
[widget] - this is the only term typed into google, eg. the user typed widget as the only word in the search bar

Thanks for any help
Cheers
Roel

For a one word keyword, I believe widget and "widget" should be the same.

Hi Ally_Cat

Thanks! And how about word1 word2, "word1 word2" & [word1 word]?

Cheers

word1 word2, "word1 word2" & [word1 word]

In the first case, your ad will show for any query that contains both of the words (in any order).

In the second case, your ad will show for queries with both of the words (in the same order) as well as other words.

Third case will only show your ad if the exact query is requested.
