I'm glad you had a good experience there Janetteddy, and good on you for acknowledging it - I hope the lady in question receives the feedback.

While I've had no reason to use their customer service myself, I find it's a sad indictment on today's society that to wait 4 mins on the phone and then to be greeted by a helpful person is considered a rarity and not the norm.

May the Jill's of this world propogate and prosper.

I have to speak up for the adwords customer service as well.

These gals and guys provide professional service with great courtesy and respect- quite possibly the best CS experience in any industry I've ever dealt with.

Well thank you AdWordsAdvisor...Once again I thank Jill for making MY DAY!,(I say a raise would be nice for her also lol)Seriously though it is almost impossible to get good Customer Service on this planet, never mind that person being so cheery and helpful,I had my phone down at my puter station,(on speaker phone)figuring oh well this will be a good half hour or more,Jill actually frightened me when she answered so quicly, took her off the speaker and commenced with what I was having problems with, not even ten mins. and she had my problems solved, and yes I agree with 2oddSox!

May the Jill's of this world propogate and prosper. Thanks again..:)

On the few occasions I have phoned Adwords Support I have got straight through and received help from a courteous and knowledgable support person. This is via the main switchboard as well as the direct number I have been given.
As an overseas advertiser I appreciate the great service. I have to stay up late in order to phone at the start of a U.S. working day. Perhaps it is much busier if you phone later in the day.

So how much do you have to spend a month to get this number?

Is this a service for those spending enough to have an "account manager"?

Still trying to get AdWords to take my clickfraud issue seriously, they don't seem to care - threads like this are salt in the wound! :(

I wouldn't let any other supplier take $200 a month off me and provide no means to contact a human easily.

Call me a cynic, but it seems a bit odd that the number is ONLY readily available by doing a search on WebmasterWorld!

Cornwall, I didnt do an extensive search at all I just said I did a search and couldnt come up with one...I enjoy WW and the thought of Google and Ad words etc. came to mind,I dont think it would be exclusive of Google Ad words to have it here at WW,IMHO...I was just saying what "MY" train of thought was..I was being lazy and WW generally has answers to all of my general questions:)

It seems odd that the Masters of Search at Webmasterworld are deficient in their ability to hunt down information through the internet.

I posted this before, but for the edification of the bretheren ;) , I'll post it again:

Hoovers.com has for the last four or five years been the defacto internet resource for digging up information about any company.

So... If you want to place a call to overture or findwhat or google you look them up in... Hoovers. Pretty simple.

It's kind of weird that Search Engine Marketers fall down on their faces when they need to look up a simple phone number.

Hey everybody, try this: Call 411. It's old fashioned and not as sexy as using the internet, but if you don't know how to search beyond using Google, take it from me, in the United States, 411 will get you places.

Let's see, Overture is in Pasadena and Google is in Mountain View...

I recall that the last time I posted advice that they should call Google, he responded that he already had Google's main phone number but that he wanted AdWords' phone number. (He was put off by the automated message.) If he had shut up for a moment and listened to the automated message he would have heard the toll free phone number to Google AdWords.

Ok, all of the above is said in the spirit of sharing- Go in peace. :)

Three cheers for Hoovers - one of the best online research tools around.

And looks like Google has added one more fan to its already burgeoning fanbase ;)

martinbuster-
I'm sure none of us here have any difficulty in discovering the corporate telephone number of any company.

In the past I have swallowed the international call charges and called Google Inc. only to listen to a recorded message that certainly didn't mention a specific AdWords number.

It is well known that big spenders get account managers so I just assumed that the toll free number was one of the perks to those who have account managers. That I can understand.

However it is annoying to learn that there is a number that I could have called, but was not able to find out about it easily through the normal channels!

Janetteddy-
10/10 - I search WebmasterWorld (via Google) for plenty of things but it just did not occur to look here for an AdWords support number! I'd pretty much come to the conclusion that there was no human contact possible for us small spenders.

only to listen to a recorded message that certainly didn't mention a specific AdWords number.

The way I found the AdWords number mentioned in this post was through the recorded message that's on Google's main U.S. number.

It asks you for the last name of a person you want to reach, blah, blah, blah, then goes on to mention the specific adwords phone number.

Ok maybe I didn't listen long enough (calling from the UK as well) but there's no need to assume that people don't know how to use directory enquiries.

I just called the number. If you listen to the message, without pressing any numbers, within 8 seconds it's telling you the number, "If you wish to advertise with Google, call 1-866,etc. or 1-866-2google."

So I think that's where you may have been missing the number. "If you wish to advertise" means AdWords, means you will talk to someone. Takes a little gumshoe, but you don't have to be Sam Spade to get it. ;)

But if you're outside of the U.S., I don't think the toll free number may work. As ususal, Shak has a good alternative.

Martini...

That number is for US callers only. Anyone else should call corporate headquarters and ask for the Adwords Dept.

We have had a good response - i.e always someone there answering the phone, but little in the way of useful support.

i.e ...off to a meeting ("sorry, I'm too important"), or just ignoring the problem (unexplained charges on credit card) and burying their heads in the sand ("maybe they will go away and call someone else...")

We complained about a billing problem in January, and one of our Adwords accounts is still switched off by Google. Well, I'd say they've lost around $12000. Small potatoes I know, but how many others are like us?

Yup, I think I said as much in message# 17.

But if you're outside of the U.S., I don't think the toll free number may work.

Having been stranded in Madrid a couple years ago, and trying to communicate to Hotwire from Spain to re-book my flight home, I know very well the agony of USA toll free numbers not being accessible from Europe. ;)

Ouch.

I too have been totally impressed with Adwords support.

In my three experiences:

I've never waited long on hold.
The reps have always been professional and very knowledgeable.
I hung up feeling confident that my problem/concern was or would be taken care of.

I actually look forward to calling them when I have to.
Too bad we can't get people like that to man the phones at our companies.

AdWords support just solved my problem.

Somehow, they couldn't respond to numerous emails.

Yet, when I called, that did the trick!

Chalk up another one to WebmasterWorld!
