Make sense to use both "black widgets" and [black widgets]?

would I get twice the impressions?

Hi,
I'm confused on this. If i use the exact phrase [black widgets] along with the phrase "black widgets" and the customer types black widgets in the normal search box, not the exact search box, which keyword appears? If i have both of these phrases in my adword, am I hurting myself statistically, ie, getting twice the impressions? I understand the difference between the two phrases and that "black widgets" will receive impresssion for small black widgets, etc. Where I get confused is when the customer types black widgets not as an exact search, and i have both phrases described above set up. Thanks for the help on this.

You won't get twice the impressions. The impr. # that will appear for [black widgets] will be the number of people who searched for that exact phrase. The # of impr. for "black widgets" will be all the rest (small black widegt, big black widget, round black widget, etc.)

It's actually not a bad approach to take as you will be better able to see where exactly your CTR is coming from. The very targeted [] or the more general "".
